Sanctus Real opens the album with a fantastic first track, “Turn On the Lights,” that screams “crossover” mainstream appeal (note: the band does fall in the category of “contemporary Christian”). Overall, We Need Each Other is a fairly uplifting offering with big, sprawling conversations with God. While the album slows a bit towards the second half, there is a lyrical gem in “Eternal.” I’m surprised they chose the (“cough–bland–cough”) arrangement they did for the song, but I expect a tighter, acoustic version would be incredibly powerful (not to mention a great template for a wedding song–with some tweaking–along the lines of other Christian songs, related to a relationship with God, being used to describe human-to-human love).Check for yourself.
Quarters for the songs: Turn On the Lights; Eternal; We Need Each Other.
Worth listening, if you like: Switchfoot; Relient K; The Charlatans UK; Razorlight; Toby Mac;
