Ferras (pronounced Fer-AHSS) is a piano-power-pop solo artist, with recent play on American Idol with his song, “Hollywood’s Not America.” When listening through the album, Ferras mostly pulls off the trick of sounding heavily influenced without ever sounding too dated or unoriginal. He reminds me a lot of the band Melee, in the sense they both at times come across more as high school musical actors playing pop star, more than just being professional artists. This can cause him to come across as a little stage dramatic (and hollow) at times, but inbetween those moments, are some very good song hooks as well. Check for yourself.
Quarter for the song: Liberation Day.
Worth listening, if you like: Melee; Daniel Powter; Scissor Sisters; Elton John.
