In the Jukebox — May 6

2008 May 7

I’m going to include last week too. Here’s what caught my eye (in alphabetical order — lots of interesting stuff):

  • Alex Woodard — Beautiful Now: Two song offering of melodic, rootsy country music.
  • All Natural — Elements (Fire): Angst-filled street hip-hop.
  • Bone Thugs-N-Harmony — Young Thugs: Hip-hop ballad for all the lost … young thugs.
  • Caesars — No Tomorrow: Single offering of light-pop-dance.
  • Coldplay — Violet Hill:  A slow gallop of a single, distinctly Coldplay.
  • Cyndi Lauper — Same Ol’ Story: Dance along to a chorus full of F-bombs.
  • Gavin Degraw — Gavin Degraw: Oh sure, now he comes out with a self-titled album … .
  • Eli “Paperboy” Reed and The True Loves — Roll With You: Retro, soulful rock ‘n’ roll sung by a white boy.
  • Elvis Costello — Momofuku: I’m usually not a big fan, but this is pretty easy to listen to.
  • Janine Cooper Ayres — Remember the Presidents: Music to educate! Gettysburg Address!
  • Jason Mraz — I’m Yours: Mraz delivers a breezy single reminiscent of what was good about “Waiting for My Rocket to Come.”
  • Langhorne Slim — Langhorne Slim: Indie folk rock.
  • The Morning Benders — Talking Through Tin Cans: Indie rock, sounds promising, kind of like The Kooks.
  • Neil Diamond — Home Before Dark: Neil sounds lonely.
  • NewFire — NewFire: Sound like a tamer Christian version of Nickel Creek … bad band name choice.
  • The Offspring — Hammerhead: War inspired single.
  • The Wombats — Let’s Dance to Joy Division: Fun, energetic indie rock single.
